I spent the first 15 years of my career as a practicing optician in the UK. As I couldn't see myself doing that for the rest of my life, I decided to become a proper Salesman and joined the Life Assurance Industry. I worked in that industry for 25 years, the last 10 with Rothschilds, before selling my business to "retire" to France.
We bought an ancient farm house, parts of which are 700 years old, that we have renovated ourselves and bought up to the 21st century over the last 10 years.
