Charles Avery (Artist)
Charles Avery is a contemporary Scottish artist who was born in Oban in 1973. His work focuses on an on-going project to create a fictional island archipelago and is made up of large-scale drawings, installations, sculptures, objects and accompanying text. This island is presented as both a physical place and 'a challenging space for philosophical inquiry'[1]. His works have featured in exhibitions entitled The Islanders: An Introduction and Onomatopoia: The Port and each of these exhibitions have been accompanied by books with the same title.
