My home town Ongwediva - Namibia

I was born in a small town in the Oshana Region called Ongwediva in the northern part of Namibia. It is the district capital of the Ongwediva electoral constituency. As of 2010 it had 27,000 inhabitants and covered 4,102 hectares of land. Ongwediva has seven churches, two private schools and 13 government-run schools. It is a peaceful and beautiful town. The settlement of Ongwediva was established in the 1960s while Namibia was under South African occupation. Its purpose was to serve as a residential area for people employed by businesses and government in Oshakati and Ondangwa. All main educational institutions in the northern part of Namibia (at that time called the Ovamboland) were situated here . Ongwediva hosts an annual trade fair, the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair (OATF) since the year 2000, after one initial trade fair, Namibia held Trade Fair first in 1995. Furthermore, the last trade fare was on August 2012 which was the 13th edition of the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair. It surpasses all previous trade fairs, both in terms of quality and quantity. Special emphasis was placed on exhibition excellence, setting the stage that accommodated more than 110,000 visitors. As a trade promotion platform, the fair has developed into the biggest business event of the North, with strong linkages to cross-border trade with Angola. Ongwediva is the second largest entertainment town in Namibia just behind the capital Windhoek Windhoek. Ongwediva is a fastest growing town in terms of development and status as a second most livable town in Namibia, it encompasses a multi-million dollar (Namibian dollars) Bennies Entertainment Park and Lodge which has a lot of fun activities for the kids and grown-ups. Bennies Entertainment Park offers the following: Accommodation Facilities, Entertainment Facilities, Swimming Pool as well as Wifi Connectivities. Ongwediva is also a town with its own hospital the Ongwediva Medi-Clinic . It has state of the art technologies to cater for the ills and the best staff to do the catering. There are currently only two high schools in Ongwediva, Mweshipandeka High School and Gabriel Taapopi Secondary School Gabriel Taapopi SSS and there are also five primary schools. The newly created Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology of the University of Namibia is based in Ongwediva and it started its first official academic year in 2009. There is also an Educational College for teachers which was established titled Ongwediva College of Education but later on 2012 after the second president of the Republic of Namibia which is called University of Namibia Hifikepunye Pahamba Campus. The people in my hometown live in peace and harmony. I love the peace and quiet of my little hometown Ongwediva
