Owens Corning Environmental Record

Energy saving products that are being delivered to different marketplaces everyday is just one reason showing that Owens Corning is committed to making a difference in the environment.[1] Sand and recycled glass is used for making insulated fiberglass which saves enegy. The products Owens Corning sells each year are responsible for the prevention of more than 1 billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions. This equals the annual emissions of 200 million passenger cars or the use of 2 billion barrels of oil. Owens Corning is committed to increasing net positive impact on the planet. [2] Although some accomplishments have been made by Owens Cornng, there was a scandal in May 2006. The facility’s emission of HCFC 142b is a potent greenhouse gas that is an obvious ozone depleter, and was released out into the air which caused confrontaion between the NEDC and Owens Corning.[3] The NEDC also sent out a sixty day notice to Owens Corning letting them know that they were going to be sued for infringing upon the Clean Air Act.[4]
