Biography
editChristos Kedras was born and grew up in Greece next to the majestic waters of the Aegean Sea, an environment that helped him develop a natural sense for the elegant & graceful. He quickly demonstrated a love for music although his formal education was in the field of Computer Engineering.
In the early 90's (while still in Greece) he was exposed to the fledgling Electronic music scene. He was immediately attracted by the smooth & soulful qualities of the house sounds and became an avid listener. In 1994 he moved to California (Los Angeles and then San Francisco) and started DJing for house parties experimenting with the house/dance sounds that inspired him and trying (not very successfully) to establish his own music character.
In early 1998 he moved to Amsterdam and finally found his genre in the European dance-lounges of the late 90s - places like Amsterdam's Supper Club, London's Voodoo Lounge and Paris' Barfly, where dancing, euro-chic sophistication, and style seemed to co-exist effortlessly. This environment expressed Christos the most and set the foundation for what was to become his signature eclectic sound.
Moving back to Greece in the summer of Year 1999 he established the Greek electronic label "Mediterranean Beat" releasing three lounge compilations over the next 1 ½ years. These releases enjoyed moderate success in Greece and one of them (Iodium) was dubbed "the Greek Café del Mar. At the same time Christos started his first public DJ appearances in Athens, mixing house with trip-hop, Latin & bossa lounge, and experimental electronica.
In 2001 he returned to Los Angeles and started spinning at upscale private parties, fashion events, & trendy dance-lounges, quickly gaining acclaim for his sophisticated DJ sets full of bossa nova, afrolatin, nu jazz, and house. He also started collaborating with the Coalition of Los Angeles Fashion Designers (CLAD) as their music liaison and was the music coordinator & stage director for the 2002 LA Fashion Week.
Over the years Christos established a number of DJ/music nights like "Beatbox" (with DJ Panic), "Elevation" (with award-winning poet Mela), "Deep Blue" (with LA restaurateur Nicola),"Slice" (with DJ Martin East), and "Groove Kitty" (with DJ Theo Zanos). He has DJed alongside Jay-J, Claude Monnet, John Beltran, Random Soul, Raul Campos, Q-Burns, Graham Sahara, and for the likes of Sting, the Coalition of LA Designers, the Kabbalah, Create:Fixate, and numerous events.
In 2005 Christos moved into the field of production and in early 2007 he co-established Kapa Music with fellow DJ & producer Martin East. His production work has earned him kudos from international heavyweights like Pete Tong, Ian Pooley, Nick Warren, Tony Humphries, Kaskade, Meme and has aired on numerous radios including KCRW, BBC Radio 1, Ministry of Sound, Hed Kandi, Radio FG, and Ibiza Global Radio. He has licensed tracks for Kaskade, Roger Sanchez, Ibiza compilations and more.
In 2009 Christos started producing the Beat Philosophy radio hour, a syndicated radio show that airs on numerous FM & internet radio stations globally.
