Potential topics I would like to edit for our seminar:

  1. Gluconeogenesis
  2. Coenzyme A
  3. Flavin adenine dinucleotide

All of the above have a lot of information and probably not enough work for expansion/improvement

  1. Phosphofructokinase 2

There is a lot there, but still needs more work.

  1. Phosphoenolpyruvic acid: even though it short there isn't a lot more to stay about it.

Week 4 Research Results for chosen topic: Phosphofructo kinase 2

edit

The main objectives I have in contributing to this article include both expanding upon content and improving the visual aids on the site. I would like to clarify more about the reaction mechanism, more specifically emphasize the bi-functionality of this enzyme, with both editing the verbal descriptions but also adding images of both states of the enzyme (PF2/FBPase2).

For photos and images, I intend to generate images myself via programs - I am planning to ask Professor Tienson about recommended programs for creating more visually insightful protein models. (Is PDB sufficient?) I liked the protein images on the page of closely related Adenylate kinase (particularly the 3D color-coded ribbon/surface model along with the close-up image of the active site, and hope to incorporate something similar for this page.

Here are several articles I looked up to gain more insight into how Phosphofructo kinase 2 works and which will guide me in editing this article. I obtained all of them via Pubmed.

  1. I liked a lot of the photos in this article and how it already had created image of transition state for PFK-2 phosphotransferase catalysis.[1]
  2. New primary research which succinctly explains PFK-2 function in background section.[2] --> Linked to this, which is a review article which gave me a better understanding of why PFK2's control of fructose 2,6-biphosphate is important.[3]
  3. Still deciding how to concisely explain role it plays in liver
    1. Best review summary of overall hepatic metabolism[4]
    2. Discussion of glucagon interruption in PFK2 binding in hepatic glucose metabolism[5]
  4. Pancreas cell discussion[6]
  5. Another review article of hepatic glucokinase metabolism -- Make sure to view using UCLA wifi* -- accessed via UCLA wifi but unable to create citation without! (http://www.annualreviews.org/doi/10.1146/annurev-nutr-071715-051145)
  6. Textbook explanation! VERY helpful about mechanism plus images[7]

To do: Work on utilizing more secondary, tertiary sources?
