|Bowers Tower]]

Bowers Tower, . It is an historic monument put up to honor Captain Robert Lister Bower in 1936 – he was the first British Resident in Ibadan, and appointed by the British government to administer the ancient city, which he did between 1893 and 1897,[1] The Bower’s Tower was designed by Taffy Jones, the engineer that designed Mapo Hall<ref>"Archived copy". Oke-Are (“The Army Chief’s Hill”) is the site central to Igbo-Agala (Agala Forest) in Sapati Area. The tower is 60 feet high and 11 feet square with two entrances and a spiral staircase that leads to the top of the tower. From the summit of the tower, you can see Ibadan round about sprawling before you and appreciate the pre-historicity of the town. The memorial tower symbolizes a plethora of meanings. It is perceived that the people reflection of the footprints of Bower in the annals of their history necessitated the erection of that historic monument as a memorial of his relatively peaceful era, socio- economic development as well as his general administrative acumen in the course of his service among them which remain indelible. As a rider to this, the monument serves as a reminder to the Ibadan people in particular and the Yoruba in general, of the man who firmly established the loyalty of their forebears to the British imperial crown.
