Ameet Kamath, also known as Ameet is a natural soulful singer at heart, with powerhouse vocals and a range to deliver anthems or croon slow jams. He checks all the following boxes: R&B He always takes you with him on a variety of journeys through covers and his reflective, passionate compositions.
Early Life (1995)

As a young boy growing up in Mumbai, the singer-songwriter sang church hymns and anthems at his Jesuit grade school. He was deeply influenced by Bollywood soundtracks, Indian classical and The Beatles, Culture Club, ABBA, and Queen, and treasured his music collection, which included bootleg recordings of American Top 40 and Britain’s Top of the Pops.
He came to New York City in 1995, investing the money from his first paycheck in voice coaching. Like many young performers, he cut his teeth as a busker in city parks and singing in nightclubs, most notably NoHo’s famed Marion’s Continental.
“I am not your conventional Indian import. I sought out a life in America in order to express myself; that’s the promise America always had for me,” he says.
Music Journey (2010 - 2016)
___________________________________________________________________________
Ameet’s debut effort, Greasy Rails, which was self-produced in 2010 after he moved from New York City to San Francisco, received critical acclaim. Soundbox, India’s premier music industry publication, hailed the breakthrough album as “jubilantly bridging new ground in the popular divide of the music of the East and the West.”
Ameet followed the project with 2016’s Into the Night, a sonic opus chronicling his migratory musical experience without convention or stereotype, That same year, Ameet performed a straight-up improv jazz set at the Twin Cities Jazz Festival. The album was also The Current’s pick of the week.
“In my music, I’m telling stories so that the listeners can understand life as I do – constantly negotiating spaces, first as an American immigrant in the 21st century and now as an artist,” he says. “I am not a starving artist, but I am starving to express myself.”
Ameet’s art continues to evolve, as evidenced by his forthcoming eponymous release. Leaning into soul and R&B. It’s a collection of pop R&B, ballads, and dance tracks that are reminiscent of the 80s.
