Sourav Kundu is awarded with Ramanujan Fellowship by Department of Science and Technology(DST), Govt. of India in the year 2015. Dr. Kundu did his Ph.D. from University of Kalyani under the guidance of Prof. Dilip Mukherjee,Endocrinology Laboratory, Department of Zoology in the year 2011. After his Ph.D., he relocated to United States of America in the same year. There he joined as a Post-doctoral Research Associate under the mentor-ship of Dr. Utpal Sen, FAHA in Department of Physiology and Biophysics, University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky.
Presently, Dr. Kundu is working as Ramanujan Fellow in the Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), An autonomous institute under Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, Vigyan Path, Paschim Boragaon, P.O. Garchuk, Guwahati- 781035, Assam. The theme of Dr. Kundu's research is based on Epigenetic effects on endometriosis which is a novel study and for the first time, it will throw some light to find a relevant foundation of the disease. Environmental toxicants contributes to aberrant epigenetic changes, and these changes are supposed to be linked with gene expression and hormonal imbalance leading to disease progression. Under epigenetics, interaction between DNA methylation, histone modification and microRNA (miR) modulation are the main focus by which endometriosis and its probable cause will be explored by his research group. Therapeutic studies using specific epigenetic inhibitor as well as anti-miR is an important aspect of his study.
Dr. Kundu has published several research papers in journals of international repute.
