Scientific contribution

edit

In his scientific work in the area of oncology Röcken aims to improve the early detection and classification of malign tumors as well as the estimation of the prognosis via biopsy and resected tissue.[3] He also directs to guide therapeutic decisions in assured quality prematurely through specific tissue diagnostics.[4] His research activity is accompanied by a comprehensive engagement regarding the development and implementation of quality assurance measures.[5] In his focus area of amyloid and amyloidosis Röcken is working intensively on ensuring and continually improving the diagnostic and classification of systemic amyloidosis, as they are connected with various therapeutic consequences.[6] Here, a further objective is to keep a register of amyloidosis to enable systematic trials on a rare disease with larger patient numbers and being able to make statements about epidemiology of amyloidosis in the future.[7]

Presently, Röcken is contributing his expertise to many scientific organizations.[8] He is member of the American Association for Cancer Research and the European Society for Pathology. He also is chairman of the working group Oncological Pathology of the German Cancer Society [9] and board member of the German Society for Pathology e.V..[10] Furthermore he is assessor of the committee Pathology/Neuropathology of the accreditation schemes "Deutsches Akkreditierungssystem Prüfwesen GmbH" and the national accreditation scheme DAkkS.
