Edward (Ted) Rogers (4 January 1909 – 27 October 1997) was a Methodist Presbyter and President of the Methodist Church. During the mid-twentith cneury he as prominatent figure through his ecumenical work and work for the Methodist Church in the field of social responsibility.

Rogers delivered the 1957 Becly Lectures "God's Business".

Life

Rogers was born in Fleetwood on 4 January 1909 to Edward Eccles Rogers and Margaret Broadbent. Orphaned by the age of 10, he was raised by his grandmother, a Primitive Methodist.

Rogers was educated at Baines School in Poulton-le-Fylde and then entered the Honours School of Economics and Political Science of the University of Manchester, gaining a BA in 1930 and the MA in 1930. While doing research at the Bank of England he handled coins from the biblical age and was inspired to pursue ordination in the Primitive Methodist Church. He entered Hartley College. There he edited the College Magazine.

He died on 27 October 1997.

Ecumenical Involvement

Rogers participated in numerous ecumenical meetings and projects.

At the World Council of Churches conference "Christian Action in Rapid Social Change: Dilemmas and Opportunities" held in Thessalonica, Greece (25 July to 2 August 1959), Rogers chaired Group III, 'Christian Responsibility in Political Action in Rapid Social Change'.
