Physician and writer, David Hilfiker MD, has spent much of his life providing health care to homeless and formerly homeless people in Washington, D.C.
Career
editA Yale educated doctor, Dr. Hilfiker, started his career at a practice in Grand Marais, Minnesota. At that time he wrote a book called Not All of us are Saints, which discusses what happens when medical professionals make mistakes.
After moving from Minnesota, David Hilfiker, helped to found Christ House, which is a 34 bed shelter for people recovering from medical procedures. He then left Christ House to found Joseph's House in 1990, a home for formerly homeless men with AIDS.
