Sue Grimes

Professor Sue Grimes PhD, MBA, DipMRS, CSci. CChem. FRSC, CEnv, MCIWM is a British waste management engineer. She is a Professor at Imperial College London and a Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Waste & Resource Management. Her research focuses upon resource efficiency using closed loop methodologies, the recovery of value from waste such as from electronics, food and secondary materials and support tools for decision making for sustainable waste management.[1]

Education

Sue Grimes received her honours in Chemistry from the University of London; a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from City University, where she took up a Research Fellowship in 1982 and was awarded an MBA in 1988.[2]

Work

In 1990, Sue Grimes took up a Lectureship at Brunel University, where she went on to set up the Centre for Environmental Research in 1997. She became a Professor in 2002. In 2005 she joined Imperial College London as Professor of Waste Management. In 2008 she presented as a witness to the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee giving evidence on waste reduction.[3]

Awards

In 2000, she was lead member of the team from her Brunel research group which on the Institute of Wastes Management Millennium Prize for a study on London's biodegradable waste, producing a waste management plan for London[4].
