The All Time European Cup final was the culmination of the history of the European Cup, and was contested by Real Madrid of Spain and Sovetskaya Zvezda, a club formed by the merger of all former Soviet clubs. Real won 7-3 in front of a crowd of over 200,000 people at London's Wembley Stadium, the highest attendance for a European Cup final. There were an estimated 100 million television viewers around Europe. It is widely regarded as the greatest football match ever played.

The Soviet club reached the final through an impressive 11–2 aggregate victory over Italian champions AC Milan, whereas Madrid overcame another Italian club in Juventus 2–0 over two legs.

Pelé and Cristiano Ronaldo both scored hat-tricks with Alfredo Di Stéfano getting a solitary goal to go along with his 3 assists.
