Cin7 Inc is a global Software as a service (SaaS) company providing cloud-based inventory management software solutions to small and medium sized businesses.


History

Cin7 was founded in New Zealand by Danny Ing. Ing, now Chief Innovation Officer, saw the potential in e-commerce and omni-channel selling. In a decade, it has grown into an international company serving over 8,500 product sellers in highly competitive global markets. The company is headquartered in Auckland, New Zealand and has offices in 5 countries including the US and UK.

From 2012 to 2018, Cin7 was called Datum Connect. It began as customised eCommerce websites in New Zealand. Cin7 stands for “Connected Inventory” and 7 predictions for commerce (buying and selling products) at the time.

In 2012, DEAR Systems, now Cin7 Core, launched as a company offering cloud-based software as a service product to help small businesses manage their accounting and inventory. DEAR Systems started off as an Inventory Management ADD-On application for Xero and Quickbooks Online, helping their SMB customers move to the cloud from outdated legacy accounting softwares.

In 2019, Rubicon Technology Partners made a private equity investment in Cin7. This allowed the company to continue to grow internationally, setting up an office in Denver, CO. Then, in February 2021, Cin7 acquired DEAR Systems and Orderhive. Now, Cin7 is comprised of two products, Cin7 Core and Cin7 Omni.

Cin7 offers 2 cloud-based inventory management software (IMS) solutions (Cin7 Core and Cin7 Omni) along with Onboarding Services. Cin7 defines inventory management software as "a tool that provides visibility into your stock levels, gives you a way to order more items when needed, can connect you to additional sales channels, and lets you automate different parts of the inventory management process".[1] Cin7 aims to help businesses manage less, sell more, and connect everything. Through Connected Inventory Performance, Cin7's IMS solutions automatically create a real-time picture of everything a business makes and sells, everywhere they need it – across systems, channels, marketplaces and regions. Their products integration with over 700 tools that sellers use from accounting systems like QuickBooks to marketplaces and shopping carts like Amazon and Shopify.

Cin7 Core

Designed for small businesses, Cin7 Core is a cloud-based inventory management solutions that comes with everything a business needs to grow a world-class inventory operation, right out-of-the-box. Along with inventory management, Cin7 Core provides built in POS functionality, a full warehouse management system, a B2B portal, automations and reporting to help businesses make informed decisions. In addition, it integrates with many tools small businesses use from accounting and ecommerce platforms to shipping companies and payments solutions. Forbes points out that "You can sync stock levels in multiple warehouses, track parts for bundled and assembled goods, automate purchase orders based on sales velocity and automate order forwarding to warehouses and dropship suppliers for fulfillment. You can also track in-store sales alongside online sales with the built-in point-of-sale (POS) feature available on every Cin7 plan."[2]

Cin7 Omni

A cloud-based inventory management software designed for small and medium sized businesses. It offers custom configurations and integration requirements for native 3PL fulfillment and selling through EDI retailers. Cin7 Omni also goes beyond inventory management, 3PL and EDI to include built in warehouse management functionality, automation and robust reporting. It integrations with ecommerce platforms, accounting tools, shipping companies, and sales and marketing tools. Xero suggests using Omni to "enhance customer satisfaction and scale omnichannel commerce operations, while providing your organization the visibility it needs to optimize in an easy-to-use environment."[3]
