Heavy Mojo, Global Battle of the Bands winner 2006, is a six-piece award winning genre-bending band hailing from Atlanta, Georgia.[1] They are comprised of 3 MC’s (B – Dirty, Priest Shooby, Simon Stone) and 3 band members on the guitar, keys/bass and drums. They infuse the rhyme and rhythm of Hip Hop with heavy hitting rock beats grooving to the soulful sounds of the 70s.[2] The band was formed in the south and they have a sound similar to Maroon 5 and The Roots. They have created a loyal following on the underground scene in Atlanta and have performed at Music Midtown and on Good Day Atlanta. They have rocked the charts with hits such as “Later” and “Radio.” Heavy Mojo’s hits can be found on sports and skate video games, as well as, television shows.

The band has a dedicated following across the nation and has performed both nationally and internationally with groups such as the Nappy Roots. Rocking the indie world, they were originally with Jank Recordings under the Southern Music Distribution. In 2005, they sold thousands of copies of their “It Is What It Is” record, which was listed as the 6th bestselling independent album in the nation. In 2008, they signed to the hit label SRC Records/Universal Motown Records with Steve Rifkind.[3] They have a long list of awards spanning over a decade. In 2003 they won the BMI Urban Music Showcase. In 2004 Heavy Mojo won the 99X Locals Only Competition. During 2005, they won the People’s Choice Award, as well as, the Best Live Act at the Atlanta Music Guide Music Awards. In 2006, Heavy Mojo was the victor of the coveted Global Battle of the Bands that took place in London.[4]
