Hermann Voss (30 July 1884 - 28 April 1969) was a German art historian and special commissioner for the planned Führermuseum.
Early life and career
editMuseum director
editSonderauftrag Linz
editIn March 1943 Voss was approached by Goebbels who offered him the directorship of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. Lack of a party membership proved to be no obstacle: Hans Posse had apparently asked for Voss' appointment on his death bed. A few days later he was received by Hitler personally who instructed him to acquire 19th century German and Old Masters paintings for the planned Fuhrermuseum in Linz. Voss used a small number of trusted agents to acquire art in the occupied countries. Prominent among those was Hildebrand Gurlitt.[1]
