Hi! Welcome to my user page. I like wikipedia because it's a great way to procrastinate, and requires less effort than my old standbys of cleaning and cooking. I may not do as well on a test as I could, but boy is my apartment clean and I am well fed. :p

Pet peeve

My biggest pet peeve with WP is a stylistic one. Too many articles begin with the subject, then have pronunciation info, alternate names, classifications and all sorts of other junk that get in the way of completing the first sentence. This is ridiculous. Nobody should have to waste time trying to sort out where a sentence begins and ends, much less when it is the first sentence in the article! That's no way to start a paragraph or an article. The following example comes from the lamotrigine article:

What it's like now What it should be
Lamotrigine (marketed as Lamictal (/ləˈmɪktəl/) by GlaxoSmithKline, called Lamictin in South Africa, למוג'ין (Lamogine) in Israel, and 라믹탈 in South Korea) and also Lamitor is an anticonvulsant drug used in the treatment of epilepsy and bipolar disorder. To me, it's so much easier to read the text in the box on the right, and it is the exact same text! I'm not familiar with the process of changing a manual of style, but hopefully someone who agrees with me and has the know-how will try to make this change for the sake of readability.
