The goal of the course to prepare students to use effective methods and techniques of information gathering, evaluation and presentation.
The class will be divide into groups of 3-4 students. Each group will be given 5 items from Wikipedia articles which require proper citation. They will also receive the links to the original Wikipedia articles so they can see the full context. The articles will be chosen from the Sociology portals: Arts · Anthropology · Community · Culture · Economics · Education · Geography · Gender studies · Globalization · History · Human rights · Internet · Law · Philosophy · Social movements · Social sciences · Social Welfare and Social Work · Society.
Each member needs to find sources that can be used for the citation of the items. The group will review the information sources gathered and select the best to add to Wikipedia. The citations are to be proofread and edited by the group. The group will receive a grade for the selection and evaluation process.
Once (with feedback from the instructor) they are ready to move across to Wikipedia, each group member selects one item and citation to add to wikipedia. The item is added to the Wikipedia sandbox in the citation style required by Wikipedia. The course instructor will provide feedback in the sandbox. Students will be graded on you work in the sandbox. Once students have received the feedback that that citation is ready for the live Wikipedia site they will be encouraged to improve Wikipedia by adding the citation. The grade is based on the work done in the sandbox.

- Your group has been given five (5) items from Wikipedia articles which require proper citation. Each member needs to find five sources that can be used for the citation for of the items.
- Use the techniques and worksheets in the Information Sources and Evaluation section of the course to find and evaluate information sources for your group’s items. The information sources must be easily available for everyone in your group to access. The quality of the information sources must meet the criteria specified by Wikipedia.
