The controversial topic: Is is easier to reduce the mindless eating by changing our food environment or is it easier to reduce the mindless eating by changing our mind?

1. Mindfulness: A Long-Term Solution for Mindless Eating by College Students[1]

summary: author established a mindfulness scale and use it to measure levels of student's mindless eating habit. Also, they interviewed students about their stress level. The researchers tried to build up a relationship between level of mindless eating and level of stress.

This passage come up with a method to measure the mindless eating level, which is very significant to my topic. Also, it gives some solutions by analyzing relationship between stress and mindless eating. This passage uses a lot of mathematic methods. Researchers collects a lot of data and build statistic model. They use statistic method to show whether two parametric are related, which makes the journal very credible. The weakness of the article is that the amount of people who responded to the research is small. So the sample size is insufficient. This passage tells that the mindless eating is related to stress.

2. The emotional eating and negative food relationship experiences of obese and overweight adults[2]

summary

This passage established basic treatment for mindless eaters. The researchers interviewed some overweight eater and collected their background information. Then researchers tried to point out the possible cause and treatment to mindless eating.

This passage come up with various causes of mindless eating, which is significant for us if we want to find some treatment. The researchers interviewed a lot of people and got primary source. The weakness of this passage is that they didn't use statistical method to analysis their data, which means their conclusion is not so credible. This passage conclude that to decrease mindless eating, the patient have to recognize their issue and they also need some life intervention.

3.Dishware size and snack food intake in a between-subjects laboratory experiment [3]

summary:

This passage tried to point out the relationship between size of dish and the mindless eating. Researchers used statistical method and tried to point out whether using a smaller dishes can reduce mindless eating, however, according to data and statistical method, minimizing the dish size cannot play a role in helping people reduce their mindless eating.

This passage focus on one possible treatment to mindless eating and used statistical method to test this treatment. However, it was found that the treatment is inefficient. This conclusion refute our inherent ideas and gives scientific evidence. It is very significant when we are considering how to treat the mindless eating. Researchers conclude enough sample and used mathematic method, which makes the passage credible.

4.Mindful Eating and Mindless Eating The Science and the Practice[4]

summary:

This passage tried to point out how mindfulness important in people choosing their food, they also tried to tell readers that engaging mindfulness is a way for us to learn how to regulate ourselves.

This passage tried to compare the eating process of mindless eater and mindfulness eater. Then the passage gives some treatment of mindless eating. The weakness of this passage is that researchers did not use statistical method, they didn't collect any data, which makes the passage incredible.

5. Slim by Design: Redirecting the Accidental Drivers of Mindless Overeating[5]

This review focuses on three powerful drivers of food consumption quantity. The article point out that there are 3 drivers that influence how much attention we pay to how much we eat: 1) Sensory cues (how your senses react), 2) emotional cues (how you feel), and 3) normative cues (how you believe you are supposed to eat). This passage concerned about the third driver and provides use the ideas of how to reduce the mindless eating.

The passage provides many examples on the environment influencing food choice, which tells us that food producers always change the food environment to make people consume more.

The weakness of this passage is that it doesn't use any statistical method to prove the ideas.

This passage support that it is easier to change our food environment than to change our mind to reduce mindless eating.

6.Mindfulness: A Long-Term Solution for Mindless Eating by College Students[6]

This passage researched whether a student can reduce mindless eating by practicing mindfulness.

The included enough of sample and did comparation between two groups of students with and without mindfulness practicing, which provide a good way to reduce mindless eating.

The weakness of this passage is that it didn't come up with any theory that why mindfulness practice can contribute to this problem.

This passage support that we can change our mind to reduce mindless eating by mindfulness practice in long period.

7.From mindless eating to mindlessly eating better[7]

This passage is a review of the book. It suggest that environment factor is very important to eating. The environment include Plate shapes and package sizes, lighting and layout, color and convenience. This article uses graphs and statistical method to show how to reduce the harm of mindless eating.

This passage use graphs and statistical method, which makes it more credible.

The passage is a review of a book, thus his point is from the book.

This passage support that food environment is more significant in reducing mindless eating.

8. Mindless Eating [8]

This passage shows whether people know how they decide their food and how the environment can influence the food choice. It shows that people doesn't realize how they decide how much they eat, they also don't realize that environment can influence their food choice.

The research includes enough sample and uses statistical method, which makes the passage more credible.

The passage support that food environment is more significant in reducing mindless eating
