Martial arts belt ranks (rainbow belt)

Japanese judo was the first martial arts to introduce the colored belt ranking system as a visible indication of a students progress. The colored belt ranking system was later adapted for karate

As a student passes through the ranks taking grading exams they are awarded with different colored belts. The color order and colors that are used varies from different schools.

In most karate schools beginners start at white belt then progress to yellow, green, brown, black and finally the infamous rainbow belt. Some schools the order goes white, yellow, orange, green, blue, brown, black, rainbow

Most people see the black belt as the highest level you can achieve but in actual fact the rainbow belt is the most sought out belt for any true martial art student studying judo/jujitsu/karate . Dating back to the 1600 the rainbow belt was only presented to the most skilled, noble and honorable fighters and with it came fame and fortune. The seven colors on the belt represent the wearers true harmony with the world and total understanding of the art and techniques of fighting.
