J.D. Belcher

Early life and education
editBelcher was born on August 27, 1976, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Amos Henry Belcher Jr. and Crystal Lynn Belcher. Belcher has three brothers, Amos, Jodan and Antoine, and a half brother Amare. Belcher moved to Monroeville, Pennsylvania with his parents at an early age. His father worked as an electrical engineer and his mother as teacher and social worker. Belcher attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham for two years. He returned to his hometown and studied at the University of Pittsburgh, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts in English writing.

editBelcher graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1999.
Career
editEarly in his career, Belcher interned with The Pittsburgh City Paper and worked as a freelance reporter for The New Pittsburgh Courier. In 2013, Belcher founded The Yellow Party News, an online news hub that features stories about yellow people from around the world. His 2018 memoir Hades’ Melody, A Spiritual Awakening(2) details the summer of 2001 before the September 11 attacks. Belcher underwent what he described as a “spiritual awakening” where he experienced strange phenomena, unnatural episodes and futuristic visions of a pending catastrophe just before 9/11. It was longlisted for the Sante Fe Writers Project literary award in 2019.
Belcher’s latest novel(5) The Inescapable Consequence,(6) was published in 2020.(7)
