Under the information technology category, I chose to review the Education Technology article.

Strengths:

  • unbiased
  • has verifiable resources
  • is relevant and up to date
  • it thoroughly covers the topic from theory to execution

Weaknesses:

  • It's an incredibly long article
  • There is job specific verbiage to psychology and education that may be a barrier to entry for some people
  • There is not a lot of discussion about home application

Contribution:

  • I want to add information about the relationship between student's interest in a specific piece of technology and how effective that technology actually is
  • Added under the Sociocultural Criticism section

There is an assumption that technology is inherently interesting so it must be helpful in education; based on research by Daniel Willingham, that is not always the case.  He argues that it does not necessarily matter what the technological medium is, but whether or not the content is engaging and utilizes the medium in a beneficial way.  [1]
