Name Reference
editHis name, 'LuciusJBrutus', is a reference to the Roman consul Lucius Junius Brutus, credited as the founder of the Roman Republic and a leader in the overthrowing of his uncle, King Tarquinius Superbus — a rebellion instigated by Sextus Tarquinius' rape of Lucretia, a noblewoman married to his cousin.
After the King's exile, Brutus drafted a public declaration to all of Rome known as the Oath of Brutus; a pledge for Romans to never again accept the rule of a king.
Oath of Brutus
editThe Oath of Brutus — which was forcibly sworn to by all of Rome — is oftentimes alluded to the continuous fight against tyranny and despotism found in contemporary political climates.
"Omnium primum avidum novae libertatis populum, ne postmodum flecti precibus aut donis regiis posset, iure iurando adegit neminem Romae passuros regnare."
(First of all, by swearing an oath that they would suffer no man to rule Rome, it forced the people, desirous of a new liberty, not to be thereafter swayed by the entreaties or bribes of kings.)
