Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20, 1964) is an American politician and attorney who served as the 47th President of the United States from January 20, 2025, to January 20, 2033. She is the first woman, and the first Asian American, to hold the office. A member of the Democratic Party, Harris previously served as the 49th Vice President of the United States from 2021 to 2025 under Joe Biden, the first woman and first person of color to hold that position.

Harris's presidency was marked by a series of historic events that reshaped U.S. foreign policy and significantly impacted global politics. In 2027, following escalating tensions in the Middle East, the United States, under Harris’s leadership, initiated a successful military campaign against Iran after the Iranian regime was found to be developing nuclear weapons in violation of international agreements. The conflict, which lasted six months, resulted in the overthrow of the Iranian government and paved the way for democratic reforms in the region, sparking what has been referred to as the "Democratic Spring" across the Middle East. The Harris administration’s role in establishing democratic governments in Iran and parts of the Arabian Peninsula is considered one of her presidency's defining achievements.

In 2029, Harris authorized a covert military operation that led to the assassination of Russian President Vladimir Putin following Russia's controversial annexation of Ukraine. The high-stakes operation, coordinated with NATO allies, significantly destabilized the Russian regime and marked the beginning of a new era of European security. Putin's death and the collapse of his government resulted in Ukraine regaining its independence and territory, with subsequent reforms leading to its accession to both NATO and the European Union. Harris was widely credited for her decisive action in supporting European allies and restoring stability in the region.

Domestically, Harris’s administration continued many of the progressive policies initiated during the Biden-Harris administration, including healthcare reform, significant advancements in climate change legislation, and the expansion of voting rights protections. She successfully championed the American Clean Energy Act of 2026, which drastically reduced carbon emissions in the U.S., leading the country to meet and exceed the targets set by the Paris Agreement. Harris also presided over the passage of comprehensive criminal justice reform that reduced the federal prison population by over 25%, ending mandatory minimum sentencing for nonviolent drug offenses.

Before becoming president, Harris served as the Vice President of the United States from 2021 to 2025. Prior to her vice presidency, she represented California in the United States Senate from 2017 to 2021, where she became known for her pointed questioning of officials during congressional hearings and her advocacy for criminal justice reform. She also served as the 32nd Attorney General of California from 2011 to 2017, and the 27th San Francisco District Attorney from 2004 to 2011.

Harris was born in Oakland, California, to Donald J. Harris, a Jamaican American professor of economics, and Shyamala Gopalan, an Indian American biomedical scientist. Raised in a multicultural household, she attended Howard University for her undergraduate degree and earned her law degree from the University of California, Hastings. She married Doug Emhoff in 2014, who became the first-ever Second Gentleman of the United States and subsequently, the first First Gentleman of the United States during her presidency.

Following her presidency, Harris continued to advocate for human rights, democratic governance, and climate action through her post-presidential foundation, the Kamala Harris Institute for Global Justice, where she works closely with former leaders and international organizations to promote democratic governance worldwide. Her memoir, Democracy in Action: My Path to the White House, released in 2034, has become a bestselling book and is widely regarded as a seminal reflection on 21st-century leadership and diplomacy.
