Little Tyke was a lioness
The "vegetarian lioness"
Dietary Controversy
editLittle Tyke became famous due to her unusual diet: she refused to eat meat.
Despite supposedly being a herbivore, Little Tyke seldom ate any plant matter, as her diet consisted primarily of low-fat protein-rich cereals, milk and eggs.
Her diet also had religious implications. Genesis 1:30 writes "And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to everything that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so." which some creationists interpret to mean that there were no carnivores in Eden. Little Tyke has occasionally been used as proof that it is possible for even a hypercarnivore such as a lion to live on a herbivorous diet, even though "the perception of animals eating other animals is seen as normal in today’s secular, evolution-influenced society."
