Mehak Hyderabadi (Born: Padullaparthy Venkata Suryanarayana Murthy) is a Telugu Journalist, Urdu Shayar, Writer, Translator. He is known for his translation works from Urdu to Telugu. With Nom de plume Mehak Hyderabadi his Ghazals published in Hyderabad based prominent Urdu Dailies Siyasat, Munsif, Etemad.
Life
Mehak is born in Undrajavaram of West Godavari District in Andhra Pradesh on 9th November, 1963. He did his B.A, Post graduate Diploma in PMIR from Osmania University, and MCJ from Potti Sriramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad.
Career as Journalist
Mehak worked as Journalist in various capacities around 35 years for five leading Telugu Dailies starting with Eenadu, Udayam, Vaartha, Sakshi and Andhra Jyothi. As news correspondent, Mehak enjoys unique distinction of covering entire 1500 Kilometre gruelling Padayatra (Foot march) carried by the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy in 2003, and brought a travelogue entitled “PRAJAPRASTHANAM”.
Tryst with Urdu
Born in non Urdu environment in West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh, Mehak shifted to Hyderabad in 1991 when he worked for Udayam Daily. In fact, an interview opportunity for a Government Job led him to learn Urdu on fast track mode. He learned Urdu from MA Malve, a retired DSP in united Andhra Pradesh State. Mehak properly trained under Rahman Jami, a popular poet from Hyderabad in Ghazal grammar. He soon penned Articles and Ghazals for Siyasat, Munsif, Etemad Dailies.
Translation works
Mehak translated selective stories of renowned Urdu Writer Jeelani Bano into Telugu and brought two anthologies entitled “Guppita Jaare Isuka” and “Antaa Nijame Cheptaa”. The former work won Potti Sriramulu Telugu University literary Award for best translation category in 2017. Later he brought anthology of celebrated Urdu writer Saadat Hasan Manto stories entitled “Saadat Hasan Manto Kathalu” into Telugu in 2020. All the three works published by Navachetana Publishing House, Hyderabad.
