History

edit

The University of Miami's business school was founded in 1929.[1][2] The school's founding came in the middle of a period of financial turmoil for the university and classes were initially held in the unfinished Anastasia Hotel, near the parcel of land that would later become the university's campus.[3][4][5]

In 2017, University of Miami President Julio Frenk appointed John Quelch, formerly of Harvard Business School, as Dean of the Business School and Vice Provost of Executive Education.[6][7] Shortly after he was hired, Quelch lead an initiative to change the school's name from the University of Miami School of Business Administration to Miami Business School.[6] On October 15, 2019, the school was once again renamed, this time in honor of Patti and Allan Herbert, a married alumni couple who had contributed approximately $100 million to the university over the course of their lifetimes.[7] The school is currently known as the University of Miami Patti and Allan Herbert Business School.[7][8]
