- July 16 - A Cathay Pacific airliner crashes into the sea following a failed hijacking by four men, resulting in the deaths of the pilot and two members of the flight crew, after taking off from Macao.
- September 12 - Shortly after leaving Athens, Greece, a Salonika-bound airliner is hijacked by eight men and forced to fly to Tetovo, Yugoslavia.
