edit- January 4 - A Hungarian Airlines domestic flight is hijacked by twenty-three passengers, including the pilot, and lands into U.S.-occupied West Germany.
- January 30 - Shortly after leaving Shanghai, a China National Aviation Corporation flight is hijacked by six people and forces the plane to land in Tainan, China where the passengers are held hostage for over a month before their release.
- April 29 - A Soviet-Romanian Airways flight from Timişoara is hijacked by two people and diverted to Salonika, Greece where one of the hijackers is eventually granted political asylum.
- September 16 - Five men hijack a LOT Polish Airlines out of Gdańsk and forced to land at a military base near Stockholm, Sweden.
- December 9 - A Soviet-Romanian Airlines flight en route to Bucharest is hijacked by four men, during which a security guard is killed, and the plane is forced to land in Belgrade, Yugoslavia.
- December 16 - After taking off from Łódź, a Polish Airlines flight is hijacked by sisteen people and forced to land Roenna, Denmark.
