Michael "Mike" Boas is an American animator and filmmaker based in Rochester, New York.[1]

His short film H.P. LOVECRAFT’S THE OTHER GODS has played in festivals on four continents. Boas designed and animated the Apex Award winning HELP MIKEY MAKE IT OUT, a fire safety game for kids, produced by Animatus Studio for the Prevention 1st nonprofit.

Through his company, Mad Dog Movies, Boas animated titles and motion graphics for DVD/Blu-ray featurettes produced by Elijah Drenner of END Films, including The Ephemerol Diaries for the Criterion Collection release of Scanners. This work lead to Boas contributing titles to Drenner's films American Grindhouse and That Guy Dick Miller. For Red Shirt Productions, Boas animated the opening titles of Medieval Times: The Making of Army of Darkness. [2]

In the world of live action, Boas acted as editor and first assistant director on the experimental feature 3.14, which involved shooting in California’s Death Valley. [3]

Personal life

Boas was born in Rochester, New York, the son of photographer Keith A. Boas and Carol A. Boas. He is a graduate of Fairport High School and went on to earn a B.A. in Art Studio from SUNY Geneseo (1996).

He is married and currently lives north of Rochester. Boas teaches animation at the Rochester Institute of Technology and at Animatus Studio's Animation Workshop. He is on the executive committee for the Rochester Association for Film Arts and Sciences and is co-runner of the Rochester Writers Workshop.
