I'm Madlyn from Kimberley in Nottinghamshire although I now reside in Sutton Bridge in the South Lincolnshire fens. My maternal Great Grandfather; Mansfield Wilkinson was the land owner and founder of Cadwell Park near Louth, Lincolnshire where I made many happy childhood memories. Cadwell passed to my Grandfather and my Great Uncles and they ran the circuit up until it was sold in the early 1980's. Motorbikes have been a massive influence in my life after getting my first crash helmet as a young child. I used to pillion my father everywhere I possibly could. I was transported as a baby in a sidecar which my Dad had purchased from one of his friends, one of the motorcycle racing Haslam brothers from nearby Langley Mill, Derbyshire whom my father used to ride out with. I grew up as a huge fan of the late Barry Sheene and 'Rocket' Ron Haslam and in later years; former BSB Champion John Reynolds who lives in my hometown of Kimberley in Nottinghamshire. In my later years it’s been Guy Martin who I have enjoyed watching, whether racing something oddball or presenting one of his fascinating television programmes. I love his strong Lincolnshire accent. He is a fascinating man.
I am an animal lover, and activist when it comes to any cruelty towards animals. Whether the cruelty be due to intensive farming practices, vivisection or other forms of cruelty such as horse and dog racing, it all disgusts me. I am a vegan and am very fiercely against the sickening cruelty of the dairy industry.
I am disabled and wheelchair bound with quite severe fibromyalgia and I take prescribed opioid medication for the pain. I have spent time as a freelance proofreader of websites, documents, manuscripts and more, which I enjoyed immensely.
Besides my love of motorbikes, I am very happily married to my soulmate who I fell in love with 33 years before we actually married. We are from the same hometown and I grew up being very close to him and his family. Sadly when younger, obstacles were in our way and we both married others. Between us, we are blessed with a wonderful large and loving family.
During 2020 and frustrated due to the Pandemic and the first lockdown, I became the founder of South Lincolnshire Mini Owners Club, which involves meeting with other Mini owners one day each month. I had owned Minis during my first years of driving and I absolutely love them and so buying a new Cooper S, which I collected the day everyone was put into lockdown was much better for me with it being automatic and me having fibromyalgia. A year or two later we also added a Mini Cooper convertible to our family fleet. I love getting out each month with my friends and family. I have met some lovely people due to Minis.
I find Wikipedia to be a wonderful resource for all. As a loner of a child, I used to obsess over reading dictionaries, atlases and encyclopaedias but Wikipedia is excellent given that it is so up to date. I don’t think there has ever been something I cannot find out about from Wikipedia.
