Hanne Kah (born June 4, 1991 in Hadamar, Hesse, Germany) is a singer, musician and songwriter whose musical style can be described as folk pop.

Career

Hanne Kah grew up in the town of Diez an der Lahn. After graduation she started her professional carreer in music.[1]

Hanne Kah as a band was founded in 2015 with bandmembers Patrick Jost, Niklas Quernheim & Malte Schmidt.

The band had multiple performances on several Festivals in Germany (Inselleuchten Festival, Blacksheep Festival, Berlin Pride, Cologne Pride), Europe, Canada (Islands Folk Festival, Vancouver Pride Festival) and Australia (Illawarra Folk Festival) through the years 2017 - 2020 and shared the stage with big names such as The Hooters, Roger Hodgson of Supertramp, Nena, Marla Glen and many more.

In late 2017, Hanne Kah performed as a soloist with Hollywood composer James Newton Howard at the finale of his European tour at Jahrhunderthalle Frankfurt. She joined him and the Czech National Symphony Orchestra to perform the song "The Hanging Tree" from the film "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1," singing the part originally performed by Jennifer Lawrence.[2]

During the recording of their album "Y" in 2019, the band collaborated with singer-songwriter and producer Jan-Bart Meijers (from The Common Linnets & Peter Maffay), who is featured as a guest musician on almost all tracks of the album. Together with Hanne Kah, he recorded the duet "I Hope You Dance," which was released as a single with a live music video filmed at the Wisseloord Studios in 2020.[3]

In 2022, Hanne Kah and their band won the Big Stage Contest organized by the radio station SWR1 and subsequently supported Bob Geldof at the SWR1 Sommerfestival held at the Technikmuseum Speyer.

In 2023 Hanne Kah debuted the US as an official showcase artist for the Folk Alliance International Conference in Kansas City, Missouri.

Hanne Kah is known for her engagement for women* and queer people. In Atwood Magazine she writes:

"The visibility of role models in music and media is crucial for young queer and female individuals to muster the courage to pursue a career in these industries." Kah openly identifies herself as queer.

Hanne Kah is endorsed by Cole Clark Guitars and plays a custom built model.[4]
