Pizza Joe's is a chain of pizza restaurants in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina that was founded in New Castle, Pennsylvania by Joseph "Pizza Joe" Seminara in November 1980. The chain has since expanded to 44 restaurants throughout Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio, as well as in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
History
editThe first Pizza Joe's restaurant opened in 1980 on State Street in New Castle, Pennsylvania in a 600-square foot storefront. Within just a couple of years, Pizza Joe opened up additional restaurants throughout greater New Castle. Franchising for the restaurant began in 1985, when its first franchised restaurant opened in nearby Ellwood City, Pennsylvania. The company has since franchised over 3 dozen restaurants throughout the region, including the Youngstown, Ohio metropolitan area.[1][2]
Their first restaurant out of the Ohio Valley region is near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, which opened in August 2016.[3]
The company insists on fresh products, making their pizza dough every day. Their marinara is a secret family recipe, and all of their pizzas, subs, and more are made to order.
Joe Seminara participates in charity around the New Castle area, and sponsors schools, events, and more. He and his company also provide fundraising products for local schools, churches, athletic teams, and organizations.[4] Some products offered include cheeses, sausage, cookie dough, pies, pepperoni rolls, and pizzas. They also run "Pizza Ticket Fundraisers", which are purchasable tickets for organizations, which upon purchase, entitle you to a 9-cut pizza at any Pizza Joe's location.[5]
Menu
editThe Pizza Joe's menu consists of many pizzas, in various different sizes with many toppings. They have traditional, 'homestyle', and 'poorman's' pizza styles, as well as specialty pizzas including veggie, taco, buffalo chicken, hawaiian, and gyro pizzas. 'Dip-N-Stix' are also available, which is dough topped with spices and cheese, with a side of marinara sauce. They also have salads, wings, 'super subs' (9-inch long sub sandwiches), 'wedgies' (a pizza shell folded into a sandwich), stromboli, gyros, calzones, and pepperoni rolls.[6]
