Ancient women rulers in Africa.org
Ancient women rulers in Africa.org is an organization founded by a group of young African gender studies students in Barcelona. The group aims to deconstruct the ideologies of gender division in ancient Africa and reinforce ideas of gender equality in ancient Africa.
It is most often conceived by contemporary African generations and/or descendants as well as westerns that the gender division has always been present in African society. Not until the beginning of colonisation that African empires began to inhabit western ideologies of the gender divide and many more.
Some reasons for this declaration is that: many kingdoms in the continent were found by women - in which they were the leaders and they had to be respected. In addition, there were inexistent ideas about gender roles.
Examples of women founders include:
1. Ngo Nso = she founded the tribe of one of the most popular ethnic group in the North-west region of Cameroon.
