The Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (IBN) is a research institute of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research in Singapore. It conducts interdisciplinary research in the fields of Pharmaceuticals Synthesis and Green Chemistry, Drug and Gene Delivery, Cell and Tissue Engineering, as well as Biosensors and Biodevices.

In 2003, IBN was officially established with Professor Jackie Yi-Ru Ying as its Executive Director.

IBN is currently housed in the Nanos building of the Biopolis biomedical research complex.

IBN's organizational structure can be found here on their official website.

History

edit

Initially started as SurroMed, with a tie up between the Economic Development Board and A*Star (Formerly NSTB) of Singapore. It was re-packaged as the Institute of Bioengineering (IBE) after SurroMed transferred its expertise to the Singapore counterpart in 2002.

Jackie Ying, with her excellent expertise in Nanotechnology, was brought on board and it was probably why IBE was renamed IBN. It must be REMARKABLE that Jackie Ying is able to lead a multimillion dollar institute in biology - inclined research.
