FA category audit
edit16 Nov 2012
editWP:FA says we have 3,740 FAs, but the number is incremented manually and subject to errors. To verify it, I checked each article in Category:Wikipedia featured articles (populated by articlehistory) against each article in Category:Featured articles (populated by the star template).
I found two anomalies:
- Æthelbald of Mercia was missing a star, apparently inadvertently removed by an editor.
- WP:FA may say 3,740 articles, but it actually lists 3,741 articles, one of which is a duplicate: Tokyo Mew Mew was mistakenly listed in two sections as a result of this edit, which no one caught.
After fixing both of these issues, the numbers all agree: we have 3,740 FAs.
03 Nov 2013
editI did a three-way check of WP:FA, Category:Featured articles, and Category:Wikipedia featured articles. I found four anomalies:
- Æthelbald of Mercia was again missing its star.
- 2nd Canadian Infantry Division was promoted at FAC in 2008. In 2012 the article was upmerged into 2nd Canadian Division. It should be properly demoted.
- Jefferson Davis had a botched articlehistory that prevented it from showing up in one of the FA categories.
- Ki Hajar Dewantara was falsely marked with the FA star.
The count of 4,093 is correct.
Repromoted FAs audit, Nov–Dec 2012
editIn late November 2012 it was discovered that some FAs re-promoted in 2012 had not been properly recorded as such at WP:FFA and given the {{FA/BeenOnMainPage}} tag at WP:FA. Discussion took place at User_talk:SandyGeorgia/arch90#FFAs and at Wikipedia talk:FAC#Audit at WP:FFA needed. Several people helped bring both pages up to date.
FAs without ArticleHistory audit, 06 Mar 2013
editI found two anomalies:
Articles with the template but not listed at WP:FA, and the reverse, Aug 2014
editSeveral discrepancies were noted and fixed by others, as discussed here.
