Artificial intelligence (video games) critique

Artificial intelligence (video games)

The article I am critiquing is an article based on the use of Artificial Intelligence in video games. It is a large article that is however heavily incomplete based on the lack of resources used. The article covers specific information regarding Artificial intelligence roles in video games, however it is largely incomplete due to the fact that it is such a broad topic that could be split into more specific sections. One example is the exclusion of a specific tab for Real time strategy games which rely heavily on Artificial Intelligence processing. The detail presented by the creators of the article is mostly disorganized, and could possibly need someone to rewrite the article as some segments are unclear and void of proper information. The article is correctly placed in the start-class on quality scale as it is missing key features and is overall disorganized. Being an important subject within gamer's community including myself, I cannot accept the fact the article is overall lacking in content.

Due to the article being poorly organized, there is an abundant amount of information that wither needs to be deleted or reworked to fit properly in the article. One example of this poorly organized article is the fact that the writer goes on a tangent, speaking about the first chess programs, and then continues his article writing about other early versions of AI in games. This information is not only poorly organized, but follows a choppy pattern within the article. I was heavily distracted on some of the technical terms that the authors used, as although I understood many of the terms, a normal person with little computer science background would have trouble understanding certain terms. Although he does link some of the terms, it is better to explain in a more detail what the terms mean. The linking of Hash in paragraph 5 is not explained and requires a user to read the programming article to understand the sentence.

along with the poor organization, there are also some notes which should be addressed by the author when it comes to biased information. Under the views sub-header the author begins to speak about purists claiming game AI are not real AI. The article was not properly cited and does not explain who these purists are, or why it is relevant to the rest of the page? Views of game AI Vs. Definition of AI can easily be separated into its own article as it does not correlate with the rest of the article.

Citations also require an extensive overhaul in the article. Given the length of the article, there were was a minuscule amount of proper citation involved. Many times the article would reference other Wikipedia articles instead of citing a proper source. The authors also incorporated heavily biased sources including multiple official websites. Although these websites were necessary in describing the games involved, they could have incorporated other more reliable sources in the article.

I added Star Craft 2 under examples to Artificial intelligence (video games), as this is one of the most prominent RTS games of this generation. It also heavily incorporates the use of AI, especially cheating AI, in the core mechanics of the game.
