Parents Via Egg Donation (PVED) is a non-profit organization (501(c)3) that was created to provide an informational and supportive environment where parents and parents-to-be can come together to exchange information about all facets of the egg donation process.
This includes sharing information about agencies, legal and medical professionals, treatment centers, mental health therapists, pharmaceutical companies, and other resources. It includes more than 2500 members.
Parents Via Egg Donation is not affiliated with any IVF clinic, embryo donation agency, independent egg broker or law practice. PVED receives funding from corporate sponsors, monetary donations, and revenue from advertising on its website.
History
editPVED founder, Marna Gatlin, discovered that the technology to have a child through egg donation was available after many years of infertility.
However, she experienced a lack of information available about this particular assisted reproductive technology, being unable to find education and support. She did find a small electronic mailing list called Mothers Via Egg Donation (MVED). That group became a big support through the process of conceiving her son, and over time she became its primary moderator.
From its beginnings in 2004 to present, MVED has thousands of members who share emotional support, as well as clinic, donor agency, medication, mental health, and other information about egg donation on a daily basis. Over time, MVED members were approached by traditional parents, single mothers, and single fathers, as well as gay and lesbian couples who wanted to know where they fit into the arena of people who choose egg donation.
Marna Gatlin decided to create a full organization rather than just a mail list, with a vision of a global resource for unbiased, timely, and accurate information about egg donation, eliminating the need to search far and wide for piecemeal information and answers.
PVED was founded by seven mothers led by Marna Gatlin in January of 2008. These women are mothers or mothers-to-be who are or have created their families through egg donation.
