Martinalgarra

The International University of La Rioja (UNIR) is a Spanish private open university offering online education. It is headquartered in Logroño, and has presence in Mexico, Colombia , Ecuador, and Peru . In early 2018, it registered more than 32,000 students and 41,000 alumni. 1

The courses and curriculum available include 19 official bachelor degrees and more than 80 master degrees, comprised under five faculties and two schools: Education; Legal , Social Sciences & Humanities; Health Sciences; Higher College of Engineering & Technology, along with the Language School and the Doctoral School .

UNIR began its academic activity in 2009 , after its authorization by Decree 69/2009, 2 on July 31 (BOR num.96 of August 5, 2009). It has official recognition under the Law 3/2008, of October 13, 3 by the Parliament of La Rioja, which states its capacity to teach courses that lead to granting of official titles.

UNIR is governed by the Spanish Universities Act (LOU), by European Union guidelines, and by the rules dictated by the Spanish State and the Community of La Rioja. Its structure, organization, and functions are defined in accordance with the parameters and requirements of the European Space for Higher Education (EHEA). UNIR’s vision is to be an academic reference of a global university within the international community. 4 21% of its student population is distributed among 79 countries on five continents.

Most of UNIR students are adults and professionals who want to complete or expand their professional education without having to travel big distances. UNIR has developed the personal tutor as a key element of their method. Through periodic contact with each student, the tutor provides support to overcome any difficulties the student may encounter during the studies. It aims to develop a personalized pedagogical model that adapts to the personal and professional circumstances of each of its students. 5

UNIR in Latin America

UNIR Mexico is a private Mexican university approved by the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) in 2013. Its academic offer of bachelor and master degrees with RVOE is adapted to the Mexican education needs and legal requirements, incorporated into the national education system under the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) in Mexico. UNIR Mexico offers five bachelor and five master degrees, in addition to European Official Master's Degrees and Diplomas. Their Bachelor's and Master's degrees have official validity and are incorporated into the national education system by the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) in Mexico.

UNIR Colombia has its headquarters in Bogotá , with more than 500 online titles validated by the Ministry of National Education . UNIR Colombia has more than 4,000 students and 4,000 graduates.

In July 2016, UNIR Ecuador was the first institution to pass successfully the new evaluation process for online universities defined by SENESCYT. This process dictates the regulations for professional careers and online and distance academic programs published by the Council of Higher Education of Ecuador. It has 3,500 students enrolled as of 2017.

UNIR Peru established in Lima in 2016, to offer its official programs with the recognition of the National Superintendence of Higher Education University(SUNEDU).

Doctorate

The International University of La Rioja offered in 2013 the first online doctorate program in Spain, "Knowledge Society and Action in the Fields of Education, Communication, Rights and New Technologies". In June 2017, the Colombian Sergio Alejandro Rodríguez Jerez read the first doctoral thesis entitled 'Quality in Higher Education in Colombia and its significance process: a semiotic analysis'. UNIR’s Language School

The International University of La Rioja (UNIR) has its own online Language School, catering for both schools and professional environments. It offers classes of Chinese, English, French, and Spanish for foreigners.

International MBA
