Ahirs Of Bundi
editThere are still 1000 Ahirs or Ahires in Bundi. The History Goes Back to 220 AD when the Early Ahirs or Abhiras ruled the Triashmi region of present day Nashik. They became the kings there, they became prominent there. But were defeated and remain a tribe in the area later. They again came up as the Patils or Chiefs of many villages of northern Nashik under the Shahis and Bahmanis. They played an important role in the Shivaji's period by securing the northernmost fort of Swarajya called Babhulgarh. Later they were taken away by the Peshwas in the conquests of Northern India. When the Peshwai Army won the Kingdom of Bundi, the Ahirs were appointed as the Resident of Bundi Kingdom. They started loving the Natives and Culture of Bundi. Soon they conquered the hearts of people of Bundi and became the original kings of Bundi making the Hadas for Namesake. After Independence of India they become Citizens of Bundi. They still remain in Royal Culture with mothertongue of Hadawat Marathi.
The History Of Abhiras Between 220AD - 377AD
editAfter fall of Satavahana empire, Abhira Dynasty came into prominence, the Abhiras ruled in the north east and the Chutus in Maharashtra and Kuntala. The Puranas state that ten Abhiras ruled for, 67 years. The Nashik inscription peaks of king Madhuriputra Ishvarasena, the Abhir and a son of Shivadatla. This dynasty originated in A. D. 249–50, an era called Kalachuri or Chedi in later times. During this time Nashik was called as Triashmi by some Sanskrit poets of Tribes. The founder of the Abhira dynasty was Rajan Ishvarasena, the son of Shivadatta, who has left an inscription in cave IX at Nasik. It records the investment of hundreds of Karshapanas in certain guilds at Nasik for providing medicines for the sick among the Buddhist mendicants residing in the Viharas of Trirashmi. Ishvarasena started an era commencing in 250 AD, which later became known as the Kalachuri-Chedi era. The earlier dates of this era come from Northern Maharashtra, Gujarat, Central India and Vidarbha. Judging by the expansion of this era, Ishvarasena and his descendants seem to have ruled a large territory comprising Gujarat, Konkan and Northern Maharashtra. Ishvarasena was followed by nine other kings of the family. They state that they ruled for 167 years.[1]
The History Of Abhirs Between 377AD - 1294AD
editAfter their defeat at Sonpur, their rule was taken away by Traikutakas. They remained as tribes in the area and the later history is unknown. They went to Northern Nashik and started living there.They came under the rule of many dynasties like Vishnukundins, Yadavas, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, and many more.
The History Of Ahirs Between 1294AD- 1487AD
editThe Abhiras or Abhirs were now to be called as Ahirs. They became local cheiftiens under Khiljis when Devgiri was annexed by Allaudin Khilji. They became prominent again in the area. They were loyalistic to Delhi Sultanate in most of the Cheiftein Groups of Nashik. They helped the Sultanate always to maintain a peaceful rule in Deccan whether which dynasty is ruling in Delhi. They became most royalistic in Nashik Pargana of Sultanate. They Frequently visited Delhi as Representative of Nashik Pargana. Hence, they became Traders too. They were supported by Shinde Chiefteins of South Nashik, More Chieftiens of South-East Nashik, And Surganga Tribes of Surganga Forest. Unknowningly they were shifted to Mughal Rule by Annexation of Delhi Sultanate.
