Who am i?
editLocality, locality, locality
editI am Ross Mayhew, aged 53 (as of Feb. 2009, i.e.), and have lived in the Halifax region nearly all my life: from 1959 to 1995 in the Spryfield area - first Thornhhill Park, then as an adult, Green Acres. After a year in Armdale, i moved to Timberlea in 1997, where i now reside. I have also lived in various parts of Ontario for brief periods: London, Waterloo, Toronto and on a Seventh Day Adventist self-supporting farm in Trout Creek (north of Orillia), and have traveled in all 10 provinces, but not in the Yukon, NWT or Nunavit. Other salient travel experience includes visits to many of the states in the USA (favorite place there so far is Yosemite National Park in CA), Paris/Chartres, the Netherlands and Scotland. Favorite 3 journeys: Paris in 1990 with a choir, train trips across Canada in the 1980s, and Labrador (Nain), in 1999. Top of my list of places to visit: the Philippines (friends there, and have heard a lot about the country), New Zealand (spectacular scenery), the Canadian north, Eastern Africa, and Gros Morne National Park in Labrador.
interests
editMy primary interests are in the areas of the sciences (most particularly Biology, Ecology, Geology, Anthropology, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Climate Science and most of the non-mathematical concepts and discoveries in Physics and Computing); natural history; music from all periods from Pythagoras to Pikelback (my favorite musical period, however, is the Renaissance); health topics from medicinal plants to neurosurgery; geography; current events; history and language.
general outlook
editAlthough i fully believe in the aphorism "Life is for living", i try to be as objective as possible when determining what to believe or not, and when editing Wikipedia pages i do my best to stick to a "Neutral Point of View".
activities
editMy favorite activities are singing, hiking/exploring/camping, swimming, canoeing, being a father-figure and friend to children who lack a strong one in their lives, corresponding with folks all over the world, doing theraputic or relaxational massage work, keeping abreast of the latest in my various areas of interest, cycling, and observing what goes on around me and around the world, while helping out where i can.
profession
editVaried occupations: landscaper, small-timey contracting/handyman, seashell seller and free-lance massage therapist. Currently (Jan, 2010), am studying to be a clinical massage therapist (week 17 of a 70 week course) at Northumberland College in central Halifax.
Goals
editCareer (actually having one, especially!!), stability, marriage, family, more travel, and making a "positive" difference in lots of lives!!
