Martina McAteer - Whelan Irish visual artist.
Born 1970 in Birr, Co. Offaly, Ireland.
Represented by the Oisin Gallery, Dublin.
A self -taught painter and mother of two children. Strongly influenced by eastern European painters and iconography. She uses classical methods of oil painting and gold leaf in a highly innovative way. The works tend to be ethereal in atmosphere and can range in subject matter from classical to intensely religious. Her work is regarded highly by the esteemed Irish artist Mr. Patrick Pye and the Scottish narrative painter and lecturer with Edinburgh College of Art Mr. Robbie Bushe.
