Victor Venerdì (20 May 1989 in Warsaw) is a Polish poet of the young generation.
Victor Venerdi came from a broken family. His mother Urszula, a teacher, brought him alone. For the youngest years she acquainted the son with Polish and world literature, educated him up to 9 years of age. Raised in the Catholic spirit, he spent time mainly on conversations with adults and unwillingly played with peers. At school he studied with very good grades, but was a very sickly child. In 2013 graduated with honors the law at the University of Warsaw.
2008-2014 Emportante
editFirst poetic efforts he already made at the secondary school. However, short poems he wrote in 2008, preparing the Emportante tome, intended to be the first serious attempt of pen. Works on it lasted 6 years, as a result of which about 450 poems arose. His critical attitude towards own work caused that decided to publish only a small proportion of it, remained part he irremediably destroyed, in spite of family and friends opposition. Emportante tome was divided thematically into four parts: I – love, II – suffering, III – identity, IV – forgiveness. A poetic manifesto Phone precedes all parts. Many of works constitute short philosophical treatises. Works correspond with many art works (e.g. The Raft of the Medusa, Execution by firing squad, Adam's Death, Nike of Samothrace, Mozart's Requiem, Mona Lisa), with Slav mythology (Kupala Night), with Christian religion (Adam and Eve, Cain and his wife, resurrection of Jesus), as well as with historical events (takeover of a tank-traps by the insurgents on August 13, 1944, extermination of Jews in Jedwabne). He also brought contemporary themes (drama of African immigrants on the Lampedusa Island, phenomenon of people disappearances, problem of the elderly people life quality).
Poetics
editPoetics in Victor Venerdi poems is characterized by a resignation from rhymes, identical amount of syllables, as well as punctuation and capital letters (apart from polite phrases and proper nouns). From Różewiczowski style the pathos and a lot of stylistic means distinguish him (in particular, elaborate metaphors and comparisons).
