Mabel Moir-James (1917-2010) was the first woman political minister in Dominica.[1] Moir-James was also active in women's rights movements and founded the Women's Guild in Dominica.[2]
Biography
editBefore entering politics, Moir-James worked with her husband in a drug-store business.[1]
She became part of the Dominica Labour Party and won a seat for the Western District in the general elections in 1966.[1] In 1967, Dominica received Associated statehood from Britain, and Moir-James became the Minister of Home Affairs.[1] She served in that position from 1967 to 1970.[3]
