Lyndall Harvey Barbour an Australian radio and stage actress most known for Maybe This Time (1981), Dawn (1979) and You Cant See Around Corners (1969)[1]. She also had guest roles in Matlock Police (1971) and The Flying Doctor (1960)[2]
Early Life
editLyndall was born in Cairo, Egypt on 19th May in 1916 of Australian parents. She was the first born of four children and the only girl. The family moved from Cairo to Britain until 1919 when they returned to Australia and settled in Sydney. Lyndall attended Sydney University, joining the Sydney University Dramatic Society while studying and graduated in 1938 with a BA. She died in Wahroonga, Sydney on 10th October 1986.
Career
editLyndall began her radio career while studying at The University of Sydneyin the radio play Coronets of England and in 1938 she successfully auditioned for a role at the Australian Broadcasting Commissioncalled Into The Light and worked in many long running radio series such as; First Light Fraser, Danger Unlimited, and Crossroads of Life.
She won Macquarie Awards for the best supporting actress in 1946 and 1948 and a Best Actress Award for Genius At Home. She won the Sydney Theatre Critics Award in 1956 for the stage play The Rose Tatoo by Tennessee Williams.
Lyndall Barbour never married and lived her later years in North Sydney. She died of cancer in 1986.
