Personal life
Dr. Dean Aslinia was born in Tehran, Iran in 1979 right after the Iranian Revolution and right at the start of an eight year war between Iran and Iraq. At the conclusion of the war, he was 8 years old and concluding the second grade in his primary education. At the age of 12 while he was in 7th grade, his parents decided that the lack of educational and professional opportunities had eroded in Iran as a result of the war, and it would be best for him future growth to move to the United States. His Uncle and his Aunt, therefore officially adopted Dean as their son, and moved him to Houston.
In Houston, TX he completed his middle school and high school education in Aldine ISD schools, Hoffman Middle School and Eisenhower High School. Upon the completion of his primary education, he began taking courses towards his Associate of Science degree at Tomball College, (Lone Star College System). At this point he was pursuing a biology degree with a pre-dental path. Upon the completion of his A.S. degree, he moved on to the University of Houston, where he began with as a Biology Major. He completed his Junior year at U of H and during this time was elected as the Vice-President and subsequently as the President of the American Student Dental Association (ASDA) Pre-dental Society Chapter. This immersion into the dental field helped him tramendouly, as he realized a void in meaning and purpose with his education and future possibilities.
At this point, he had to make a very difficult decision to switch his major to Psychology. He found this decision to be extremely difficult and he faced a lot of resistance from his family in regards to this change. He however, continued this path, and after completion of his undergraduate degree in psychology was accepted into the Master of Arts Psychology program at the University of Houston - Clear Lake Campus. Once Dean completed his Master's degree and completed his research thesis, he moved to Dallas, TX where he began working on his Ph.D. in Counseling at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Along the way, he earned a second masters degree in counseling with specialization in working with children and adolescents. During this time, he met his wife and they got married in 2008. Dean has two children and he and his family reside in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Metropolitan Area.
