Americ Azevedo
editAmeric Azevedo is a philosopher and student of life.
Worked with computers, software, and social computing for many years. He was born in the Azores Islands in the North Atlantic. In 2015 he retired from teaching at the University of California, Berkeley. In his old age, after retirement he embanked on his most productive phase of his life. No longer constrained by the demands of supervisors and students to do assignments and papers. He has of long periods of contemplation, communications via text messages, phone calls, letters, and occasional visits from friends and former students.

Formative Trauma of Early Grade School
editAmeric's parents where first generation immigrants from the Azores Island. Americ started grade-school in the first grade. Mother did not want to let him go into kindergarten. The first day, mother and my father walked him into the classroom and left him there. He did not speck a word of English. The kids made lots of run of him. He had no idea what was happening. He hid himself in a supply cabinet, among other things.
Americ dealt with social adversity by retreating into books and knowledge. Eventually his discovered science. Eventually becoming interested in anything about the universe. Something he retains to this day.
Philosophy of Dynamic Collective Knowledge Development
editAzevedo claims knowledge is knowledge formation depends the collective behavior of groups of people. The work of thinking and writing is individual, but the thoughts and ideas transcend individuals.
He claims Wikipedia is a model for the future of knowledge. In other words, knowledge is a dynamic social enterprise. Wikipedia articles can be updated instantly as well as being changed by collective groups of writers.
