I am a linked open data researcher, addressing underrepresentation and bias in cultural heritage organizations and open public knowledgegraphs.
About me
Darnelle Melvin is the Special Collections and Archives Metadata Librarian and an Associate Professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he is the lead metadata and Semantic Web strategist responsible for managing metadata activities such as largescale remediation projects, metadata workflows, and metadata documentation. He is co-author of Linked Data for the Perplexed Librarian and researches metadata and resource discovery in digital libraries, ethical representation in public knowledge graphs, and data integration. Melvin received his MLIS degree from San José State University with a specialization in Information Organization, Description, Analysis, and Retrieval
My work
My work explores linked data implementation, metadata remediation tools and services, workflow engineering and optimization, and system interoperability.
- Project lead of WikiProject PCC Wikidata Pilot/UNLV: a WikiProject for work done at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas to create and enhance Wikidata items with information from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Libraries. Special Collections and Archives.
- Co-creator of Wikiframe Visual Graph (WikiframeVG).
- Project lead for UNLV Libraries Wikimedian-in-Residence Program.
