I am currently working with the authorization and under the supervision of the regional French archaeological and forestry authorities in the Champagne-Ardennes region of France to document the actions of the American Expeditionary Force (A.E.F) during the 1918 Meuse-Argonne Offensive.
Using battlefield archaeology research techniques and Geographic Information Science (GIS) I am analyzing the spatial relationships between artifacts found and the historical accounts of the battles to better understand what took place in the late summer and fall of 1918 in the Argonne Forest.
My research has involved work with Dr. Thomas Nolan of the Middle Tennessee State University in his search for the location of Sergeant Alvin C. York’s heroics that earned him the Congressional Medal of Honor on 8 October, 1818 near the village of Chatel Chéhéry. I continue to work with the regional director of archaeology for the Champagne-Ardennes region in his research at a large German cantonment area in the Argonne. My current project involves the movements and battles of the American 77th Division and its drive through the Argonne Forest during September and October 1918.--MeuseArgonne (talk) 20:31, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
